Hot Water Music

Gainesville, Florida. Formed 1993 by Chuck Ragan (vocals/guitar) and Chris Wollard (vocals/guitar), Jason Black (bass), and George Rebelo (drums). Two lead singers who trade verses and harmonize — a unique setup that gives HWM their distinctive sound. Gravel-voiced punk rock that’s equal parts Leatherface, The Replacements, and the Gainesville scene.

• Finding the Rhythms (1996, Toybox/No Idea) — Debut. Raw.
• Fuel for the Hate Game (1997) — Breakthrough. “Turnstile.”
• Forever and Counting (1997) — Continued momentum.
• No Division (1999) — More polished. Epitaph.
• A Flight and a Crash (2001) — Epitaph. “Remedy” era sound emerging.
• Caution (2002) — “Trusty Chords.” Their biggest song.
• The New What Next (2004) — Before hiatus.
• Exister (2012, Rise Against’s label) — Return. “Drag My Body.”
• Light It Up (2017), Feel the Void (2022) — Late career.

The Gainesville Scene

Hot Water Music is inseparable from Gainesville’s punk scene — alongside Against Me!, Less Than Jake, and dozens of other bands. No Idea Records (the local label) released their early material. The Fest (the annual Gainesville punk festival) grew from the same community.

Chuck Ragan Solo

Chuck Ragan’s solo career (folk/Americana) — albums like Feast or Famine (2007) — brought him to a different audience. His Revival Tour (2005-2015) was a traveling folk-punk/hardcore singer-songwriter showcase.
