Bridge Nine Records

Boston, Massachusetts. Founded 1995 by Ben Hallett. The most important hardcore label of the 2000s — the Revelation Records of its generation. Specialized in straight edge, youth crew, and positive hardcore.

Key Artists and Releases

  • Have Heart — The Things We Carry (2006), Songs to Scream at the Sun (2008). The label’s flagship.
  • Bane — The Note (2005), Don’t Wait Up (2014). Emotional hardcore.
  • Verse — Aggression (2008). Political straight edge.
  • Champion — Promises Kept (2005). Seattle straight edge.
  • Ceremony — Ruined (2005), Violence Violence (2006). Powerviolence/hardcore. Later evolved into post-punk.
  • Terror — One with the Underdogs (2004). NYHC-influenced mosh.
  • Cruel Hand — Hardcore/punk crossover.
  • Defeater — Concept albums.
  • Shipwreck A.D. — Emotional hardcore.
  • Touché Amoré — Early releases.

The Boston Connection

Bridge Nine is inseparable from Boston’s 2000s hardcore scene. Have Heart, Bane, Verse, and Defeater were all Boston-area bands, and Bridge Nine documented that scene the way Revelation documented late-80s NYHC. Boston’s Palladium (Worcester) was the venue — Bridge Nine bands’ final shows there became legendary.

Legacy

Bridge Nine kept straight edge and positive hardcore alive through a period (2000-2010) when metalcore and post-hardcore dominated. Without Bridge Nine, the 2000s hardcore scene would have been unrecognizable.
