History
Anti-Matter started as a print zine in the 90s punk scene — the kind of photocopied, hand-distributed publication that defined the era. Brannon’s writing stood out for its intelligence, its willingness to engage with difficult topics, and its refusal to treat punk as a closed system.
The zine was relaunched as an online newsletter (via Substack) in the 2020s, with Brannon continuing to write about punk, hardcore, culture, and politics. The tagline: “contemplation and hardcore conversation.”
Why It Matters
Most punk zines are either scene reports (who played where) or opinion pieces (this band rules/sucks). Anti-Matter was different — Brannon treated punk as a cultural phenomenon worth analyzing, not just documenting.
